Searching for how to install GTA 6 mods? Here is the honest answer up front: you cannot mod GTA 6 yet. The game launches 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and console games cannot be modded. Modding needs the PC version, which Rockstar has not dated. This guide explains how GTA modding works, how to get ready, and what to play in the meantime.
Can you mod GTA 6 right now?

How GTA modding usually works
If GTA 6 follows GTA V, PC modding will look like this once the tools exist:
- A mods folder the game loads extra files from, keeping your base install clean.
- Archive tools (the GTA V scene used OpenIV) to view and edit game files safely.
- A script hook that lets community scripts run, powering trainers and custom features.
- Load order and compatibility: mods are installed one at a time and tested, because two mods editing the same file can clash.
Single-player only. Modding online modes gets accounts banned, and that will almost certainly be true for GTA 6 too.
How to get ready for GTA 6 mods
Keep it simple: wait for the official PC version and tools, keep a clean unmodded copy for online, back up your saves before installing anything, and only download from trusted sources. The install routine that keeps your game alive
None of this is GTA 6 yet, but the routine will not change when it is — it is the same discipline that keeps a modded GTA V working, and skipping it is how people end up reinstalling the game:
- Keep a clean, unmodded copy for online. This is the rule that saves accounts. Mods belong in single-player; loading a modded game into an online mode is how you get banned.
- Back up your saves before you touch anything, and back up any game file a mod tells you to overwrite.
- Install one mod at a time and launch the game between each one. If something breaks, you know exactly what broke it. Ten mods installed at once is an unsolvable puzzle.
- Read the mod's own instructions and check the game version it targets. A game update can break every script mod overnight — that is normal, and it is why modders wait for the tools to catch up.
- Two mods editing the same file will fight. That is what load order and mod managers exist to referee.
"GTA 6 mod menus" and other things that do not exist
Because this search runs hot months before the game is out, it attracts the usual traps: a "GTA 6 mod menu", a "GTA 6 APK", a mobile version, a "free download". None of it exists — there is no GTA 6 build in the wild to mod. If a site asks you to complete a survey, install an app, hand over your Rockstar login or switch off your antivirus, it is not giving you mods; it is taking something from you.

One clarification, because plenty of sites get it wrong: Rockstar acquired Cfx.re (the makers of FiveM and RedM) in August 2023 and launched the Cfx Marketplace on 12 January 2026 — but that storefront sells mods for FiveM and RedM, which are the multiplayer frameworks for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. It is not a GTA 6 mod platform, and Rockstar has announced no mod support for GTA 6. It shows the direction the studio is moving in; it promises nothing.
