GTA 6 map mod for GTA 5: playing the Vice City map now

You can't play the real Grand Theft Auto VI yet — but on PC, fans are recreating parts of its world (Vice City and the state of Leonida) inside GTA 5 using map mods. These "GTA 6 map mods for GTA 5" are ambitious fan projects, not the actual game, and they're the closest thing to walking a GTA-6-style map right now.

What is the "GTA 6 map mod for GTA 5"?
It's a community map mod that builds a Vice City / GTA-6-inspired area on top of GTA V's engine on PC. You load it like any other GTA 5 map mod and explore the recreated streets, beaches and landmarks.
Correction (10 July 2026): this page previously pointed to "Project Vice" as the standout. Take-Two issued a copyright claim against it on 23 March 2025 and its creator removed the download — reportedly because the recreation drew on the community mapping project, which uses leaked coordinates. It is no longer available, and we do not recommend chasing re-uploads. The Vice City recreations that remain, like Vice Cry: Remastered, rebuild the classic Vice City rather than GTA 6's map — see the best GTA 6 mods for GTA 5.
Is it the real GTA 6?
No. It's a fan recreation: the scale, detail and missions are limited compared to the real game, it's single-player only, and it looks like modded GTA 5, not GTA 6. Think of it as a tribute / early taste, not a leak of the actual game.
How does it work?
- PC only. You need GTA 5 on PC — this is impossible on PS5 or Xbox.
- It's installed like other map mods (a script hook plus the map files), following the project's own instructions.
- It's a work in progress — expect bugs, and features that change between versions.
Why these projects keep getting taken down
There is a pattern behind the disappearing downloads, and it is worth understanding before you go hunting for a re-upload. The GTA-6-map recreations lean on the community mapping project that reconstructed Leonida's shape from debug coordinates in the 2022 leak — and that is exactly the material Take-Two moves against. Project Vice, the standout of its day, drew a copyright claim on 23 March 2025 and its creator pulled the download.
The recreations that survive are the ones that do not touch leaked material: Vice Cry: Remastered and its kin rebuild the classic Vice City from the 2002 game, which is homage rather than reconstruction. That is the line, and it explains why one project lives and another vanishes.
When will a real GTA 6 map mod exist?
Not until GTA 6 itself is on PC. A genuine map mod needs the game's own assets and tools — and GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version announced. Until then, everything with "GTA 6 map" in its name is a GTA 5 mod, however good it looks.
Is it safe? Watch out for scams
Genuine single-player map mods for GTA 5 on PC are generally safe when downloaded from trusted modding sites. But this search term attracts scams: anything promising a "GTA 6 download", "GTA 6 APK" or "GTA 6 for GTA 5" for console or mobile is fake. There is no way to run GTA 6 early — only fan map mods inside GTA 5 on PC.
When can I play the real GTA 6?
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version — the one that would eventually get real mods — is expected later but hasn't been officially confirmed.
