GTA 6 on PC: what we know about a PC release

GTA 6 is not coming to PC at launch. Grand Theft Auto VI releases 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or a PC date, but history strongly suggests one is coming later. Here is everything we know about GTA 6 on PC: whether it is happening, roughly when, and what it means for mods.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Almost certainly, but not yet. Rockstar has released every modern Grand Theft Auto on PC eventually, just later than console. GTA 6 has no confirmed PC release as of now, and the store pages list PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Treat any "GTA 6 PC" pre-order or CD key you see as unconfirmed until Rockstar says otherwise.
When will GTA 6 release on PC?
There is no official date. Based on Rockstar's pattern, a PC port typically lands roughly a year or more after console: GTA V came to PC about 18 months after its console launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 about 13 months later. Applying that to a 19 November 2026 console release points to a likely PC window somewhere in 2027 to 2028. That is an estimate, not a promise. Why isn't GTA 6 on PC at launch?
Rockstar has historically prioritised a polished, simultaneous console launch, then used the extra development time to build an enhanced PC version (higher frame rates, resolution, draw distance and settings). It is a commercial and technical choice, not a sign PC is cancelled.
GTA 6 on PC and mods

Should you wait for PC or buy on console?
If you want to play on day one (19 November 2026), console is the only option. If you specifically want mods, the highest frame rates, or mouse-and-keyboard, waiting for the PC version makes sense, accepting it could be a year or more out. Will GTA 6 be on Steam, Epic or the Rockstar Launcher?
Rockstar hasn't named a storefront for the PC version, but history is a strong guide. GTA 5 eventually launched on Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Rockstar Games Launcher, and Red Dead Redemption 2 did the same. Expect GTA 6 to land on all three PC stores when the PC version arrives, rather than staying a launcher exclusive.
On timing, the console-to-PC gap has shrunk each generation: GTA 5 came to PC about 18 months after consoles, and RDR2 about 13 months later. If GTA 6 follows that pattern from its 19 November 2026 console launch, a PC release lands somewhere between late 2027 and mid-2028 — an estimate, not a confirmed date. And before you ask about playing with friends: GTA 6 Online does not exist yet on any platform. Some players are betting on PS5 emulation to get there sooner — we looked at what those emulators can actually run today, and GTA 6 is not on the list. That PC version is also the gate for community multiplayer: FiveM roleplay can't reach GTA 6 until a PC edition exists. Rockstar's older games face the same wait, too: a rumored GTA 4 PS5 port is not expected until after GTA 6 either.
