Who is Lucia Caminos, the first female protagonist of GTA 6?

Lucia Caminos is one of the two playable protagonists of Grand Theft Auto VI, and the first female protagonist in the mainline series. She is one half of the criminal couple at the centre of the game — Rockstar has compared her and Jason Duval to Bonnie and Clyde — and she is the character the whole reveal was built around.
Who is Lucia Caminos?
Rockstar's own description is the only authority worth quoting here, and it is unusually specific. Lucia's father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk, and life has been coming at her swinging ever since. Fighting for her family is what landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary — and, in Rockstar's words, sheer luck is what got her out.
What she wants is not complicated: the good life her mother has dreamed of since their days in Liberty City. The difference is that Lucia is not interested in half-baked fantasies. She intends to take matters into her own hands, and a life with Jason could be her way out.
That single line about Liberty City is the one every long-time player notices. It plants Lucia's family in the same country as GTA IV's city — a quiet piece of continuity in a game that otherwise looks forward.
The first woman to lead a mainline GTA
This is the part that made the announcement historic. In more than two decades of mainline Grand Theft Auto games, no woman had ever been a protagonist. Lucia is, and Rockstar did not treat it as a footnote: she is the first character you meet in the first trailer, and the story starts with her walking out of prison.
What the trailers actually show
Be careful with what you read elsewhere: almost everything "known" about Lucia comes from about three minutes of footage, and the rest is invention. What we have genuinely seen:
- Trailer 1 (December 2023) opens on Lucia inside the Leonida Penitentiary. A counsellor asks why she is there. "Bad luck, I guess," she answers — the first line ever spoken in GTA 6, and a good summary of her humour.
- Trailer 2 (May 2025) gives her a surname and gets her out: Jason arrives at the gates — "I'm here for Lucia Caminos, she's supposed to be getting out" — and from there the trailer builds the couple, the robberies and the relationship that is clearly the beating heart of the game.
- The closing shot of the first trailer already showed the premise: Lucia and Jason robbing a store together while she talks about trust.
What we still do not know
A lot, and we would rather say so. Rockstar has not announced who voices Lucia, has not explained how switching between the two protagonists works, and has not said how much of the game is played as her versus as Jason. Any site telling you otherwise is guessing. When Rockstar says something, we will update this page.
