The 2022 leak listed 1,367 GTA 6 world events, and most of them are not random events

Ask how many random events GTA 6 will have and the same figure comes back every time: 1,300, or more precisely 1,367. It is one of the few numbers circulating about this game that can actually be traced to something concrete, and it comes from the September 2022 Rockstar breach. It also does not mean what most posts about it suggest.
Rockstar has never published a count, and the leaked list is not a promise
The 1,367 figure was compiled by a member of GTAForums, MrBreak16, who went through the material from the 2022 leak and catalogued every entry in a directory named World Events. The running thread on GTAForums puts the total at 1,367 slots, of which 876 have names attached. The rest are gaps in the numbering, entries nobody has been able to identify.
Two things follow from that, and both get lost when the number travels. The list describes a development build from 2022, roughly four years before release. And a slot in a script directory is not the same thing as a finished, playable event with a marker, a reward and a consequence.

What a world event is, and why it is not the same as a random event
World Events is the name of the folder itself. It is the same directory where data miners found a file called Virtual Navigation, whose name matches a public Take-Two patent on how traffic and pedestrians move around the map, something we covered in detail in our piece on the technology behind GTA 6 traffic.
That context matters, because it tells you what kind of directory this is. A lot of what sits in it looks like ambient life: a fight outside a bar, a tow truck taking a car away, a couple arguing at a bus stop. Background behaviour that fills a street and then dissolves, closer to what Rockstar calls ambient events than to the numbered Random Events of GTA 5, which have their own entry in the pause menu and count towards completion.
Estimates that circulate in the community put the number of genuinely playable, GTA 5 style events somewhere between 300 and 400 once the ambient filler is stripped out. That figure is a community estimate too, so treat it with the same caution.
The comparison that gives 1,367 its scale
| Game | What is being counted | Total |
|---|---|---|
| GTA 5 | Random Events (Enhanced Edition) | 60 |
| GTA 5 | Strangers and Freaks missions | 58 |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | Random encounters (community counts) | Around 90 |
| GTA 6 | Entries in the leaked World Events list | 1,367 (876 named) |
Even the most conservative reading of the leak, the 300 to 400 range, lands at several times what GTA 5 shipped with and several times what Red Dead Redemption 2 offered. The gap is big enough that the exact number stops mattering.
What is actually on the list
The named entries are exactly as strange as a Florida setting deserves. Data miners have pulled out backyard wrestling, a roadside sobriety test after reckless driving, kidnappings, a mansion full of big cats in the spirit of the Tiger King story, UFO sightings, fishing with bait shops dotted around the coast, and a Bonnie and Clyde mystery spread across several locations.
All of that is leaked material, not an announcement. Rockstar has confirmed the breach itself was real, which is why the files are treated as genuine, but nothing on that list has been shown by the studio.

What the trailers already show
Some of it has surfaced in Rockstar's own material. The second trailer shows police lining men up against a Little Haiti mural during a search, playing out in the world rather than in a cutscene. The official screenshot drop includes poachers hauling a trailer full of alligators through the wetlands with a patrol car, an airboat and a helicopter closing in on them.
Neither of those is proof of a player facing system. They do show a world where things are already happening without the protagonists, which is the raw material every random event is built from. Our full trailer breakdown collects the rest of the ambient detail.
The problem a big number does not solve
Red Dead Redemption 2 had around 90 encounters and players still met the same man bitten by a snake on the same stretch of road for years. Volume was never that game's weakness. Rotation was, along with how often an event repeats, whether it changes on a second playthrough and whether anything you do in it echoes later.
That is the part worth watching in GTA 6, and it is the part no leaked file list can answer. A directory with 1,367 entries tells you what was planned in 2022. It says nothing about how often the game will reach for each one, or whether the fifth time you drive past a corner store robbery it will still surprise you.
What to watch next
Rockstar has not detailed any of this publicly. The next real information will come from the third trailer or from a gameplay showcase, both of which usually arrive close to launch on 19 November 2026. Until then the honest position is the uncomfortable one: the leaked list is real, its size is genuinely unusual, and how much of it survives into the finished game is unknown. Our rundown of confirmed GTA 6 features tracks what has actually been shown, and the release date hub follows the calendar.
