GTA 6 delays: the full history and latest update
Updated 10 July 2026. No new delay. GTA 6 is set for 19 November 2026.
GTA 6 is not delayed. It is locked for 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked directly on the Founders podcast and answered "November 19th. I do know." Pre-orders are live and a pre-load date is set. But GTA 6 has slipped before, so here is the full history and how likely another delay really is.
Has GTA 6 been delayed?
Yes — twice from a public window, and by roughly a year and a half from Rockstar's own internal target. Zelnick put a number on it: "I think we're about 18 months behind the original date. Not much more than that."

Will GTA 6 be delayed again?
It looks unlikely, and for reasons stronger than a press release. Pre-orders opened on 25 June, a pre-load date of 12 November is published, and Take-Two has told investors it expects the launch to drive its next fiscal year. Studios do not open pre-loading windows for a game they expect to move.
Nothing is guaranteed until a game ships. What we can say is that the people who would have to announce a delay have repeatedly, on the record, said there will not be one. We update this page the instant that changes — the URL stays the same.
Why was GTA 6 delayed?
Rockstar cited the extra time needed to reach the level of polish players expect, which is close to what it has said before every one of its delays. The studio has form: GTA V slipped, Red Dead Redemption 2 slipped twice, and both shipped to a standard that made the wait look like the right call in hindsight.
There is also a scale argument. GTA 6 is the first Rockstar game built for current-generation hardware only, with a map roughly two and a half times the size of GTA V's. The console versions are already expected to run at 30fps rather than 60, which tells you how close to the ceiling the game is running.
What about the PC version?
This is the delay nobody counts, because it was never scheduled. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, let alone delayed one — see is GTA 6 coming to PC for the historical pattern and a realistic window.
